For all players interested or considering playing on a travel team, it is essential that he or she attends our field sessions. If your child intends to play travel soccer in the fall but cannot attend, please contact Susan Ruff. No registration is required to attend field sessions, but players intending to play on a travel team must be registered by June 15 to guarantee placement on a team.

CYS teams participate in a travel league, BAYS (Boston Area Youth Soccer) for players in grades 3-8. For this program, we try to "level" our teams so that players are playing with teammates at their own level, and they play against teams that are appropriately leveled from other cities and towns. Our travel teams have two-year age groups, therefore, teams automatically change every year.
For our team formation process, we use two data sets to assess our players before placing them on a team: (1) we have coaches, from our in-town program and our BAYS teams, fill out evaluations of their current players and (2) we do an on-field play assessment, with impartial evaluators watching the kids play small sided games - we call this event "field placements". We then have a small committee put together teams based on the information they have from coach evaluations and the field evaluations. All kids who want to play travel are placed on a travel team if they register by June 15.
If your family would like good competition with all games within Cambridge and one practice per week then the In-town program is the best choice. If your player plays soccer in the fall only, In-town is the best choice. Our In-Town teams offer good competition and soccer development within Cambridge. The BAYS program may offer a higher level of competition for some teams, BUT it requires a commitment for both Fall and Spring seasons, and two practices each week, as well as travel time.
BAYS is a good option for many upper school players, who may be thinking about playing High School soccer. Participation on a BAYS team requires a larger time commitment from the players and the away games are often harder to get to.
We have serious soccer players in both the BAYS and In-town programs. Please make a choice based on what is best for your family and your player.
